This article was written based on a real-life experience that took place in the town where Sugano, the representative of waji/aoneco Co., Ltd., lives.
Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, is famous as a manufacturing town.
Waji was born here in 2016.
An old man who lived nearby used to be the president of a real estate company.
The thing I have in common with this guy is that we both love cats
In this day and age, there are few horizontal connections and people don't even know the faces of the people who live next door.
In this day and age where stories like this are not uncommon, this man and I would give each other souvenirs when we went on trips.
He used to grow vegetables, so we had a good relationship and he would hang the produce he produced on the front door.
The two also had a lively discussion about cats.
It all started with a sad story
I had just received so much and felt that I had to give something back.
A sudden comment I heard from a part-time worker at Waji's cutting room floor.
"It seems like that guy passed away."
He had been ill and died suddenly.
I was shocked because he had been so kind to me up until then.
And I remember what I said before.
"But wait a minute, wasn't there a cat ?"
Moreover, he lives alone with two senior cats.
I was overcome with extreme anxiety, so I immediately asked the staff at the real estate agency for advice.
I was then relieved to find out that the staff had provided food for him.
This person has no experience of keeping cats, so they are very concerned about the cats' environment, including the litter box.
After some negotiation, I was allowed into the man's house, and when I entered the room, it was a pretty good situation.
I spend about two hours cleaning and tidying up.
Of the two, one had a squiggly nose and looked like he had bad teeth, so he wouldn't eat the hard, crunchy food.
So I switched to wet food and he ate it with incredible gusto, which was a big relief.
However, with the two cats now without their owner and no clear future, the anxiety remains.
This was the day before the Shopping Channel recording that aired in October .
Rescuing two dogs and finding them a new home
Although he was very busy himself, it would be stressful for the cat to suddenly change its living environment, so he negotiated with various parties. Since the uncle owned the house, the cat could continue to live in its previous home until a new home was found.
Members from WAJI Osaka took turns visiting the litter box several times a day to provide food, toilet care, and play with the litter box's toys.
As we continued to spend our days like this, he gradually got used to us, so we decided to take him to the Kanno family's regular veterinary clinic.
From overall diagnosis to examination.
As expected, my gingivitis was severe, so I had it treated.
As I was telling them how I brought them here, I started to wonder how old they really were.
After talking to their family and close friends, I learned that the two children were around 12 and 17 years old.
Quite old cats...
(It is said that a 12 year old cat is about 64 years old in human terms, and a 17 year old cat is about 84 years old in human terms.)
However, when we looked at the results of the examination at the veterinary hospital, the numbers were good and he was in good condition!
It was a night when we saw a ray of hope that there might be a possibility of transferring the property.
Senior cats currently have a hard time finding homes
It's no surprise that kittens are so cute and popular, but what about senior cats?
The current situation is that it is difficult to decide on adoption because they are prone to illness and the time to say goodbye comes early.
Even senior cats are still cats, and with age they have developed a sense of dignity and their movements are cute.
Especially when transferring a senior cat, I felt it was important to make an effort to convey the cat's personality and good qualities.
The other day, when I visited the Animal Guidance Center in Sakai City for a meeting, I learned that since it is humans who will be the first to die, it is important to consider the balance between your own age and the cat's age when adopting a cat.
He also said that it is important to decide where to put the cats if the worst case scenario occurs (such as sudden death, as in this case).
If these rules are followed, fewer cats will find themselves in sad situations.
I thought it would be good if people could understand that.
As a result of taking care of the animal every day, an attachment naturally grew between them, and a Waji artisan (who also makes Aoneco products) became a potential foster parent.
After some negotiation about my living environment and other matters, it was decided that one pet would be accepted, and we were able to happily accept it.
This is a very pleasing development.
The cat was 12 years old and had a runny nose, so we were able to make arrangements to take him to the vet regularly.
His name is now Loki.
Another senior cat is anxious about finding a home
All that's left is the 17-year-old's cat.
Although the child was in good health, it seemed that he preferred to be alone, and even after the uncle passed away, he seemed bothered when the 12-year-old tried to communicate with him, and seemed to be stressed, unlike when there was someone around.
We decided it would be difficult to find a home where there was already a resident cat, so we looked for someone to adopt him.
I must have contacted over 30 local acquaintances and friends, but everyone has their own life and things aren't going smoothly, so I feel at a loss every day.
It was also getting cold at night, so I would bring blankets and heaters with me in the middle of the night, and sometimes I would find myself in a daze for over an hour.
Thank you for reading to the end.
