aoneco support recipient_NPO animal welfare organization “LYSTA” March-May 2024 activity report

Here is a report on the activities of aoneco's supporter, the NPO animal welfare organization "LYSTA," from March to May!

From Mr. Suzuki, representative of the Fukushima-based NPO "LYSTA":

We have received reports on the cats from March to May 2024.

He seems to be fidgety while waiting for his food.

March of this year marks 13 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and nuclear accident, and only 10 dogs and cats remain that were rescued from the nuclear accident alert zone.

During the spring equinox, we interred and held a memorial service for the 21 cats that had passed away over the past year and a half.
They come to LYSTA in a variety of ways - some were rescued after the earthquake, some from households that broke up, some that were not in a condition to be released through TNR, some that were in traffic accidents and fell into gutters, and some whose owners have gone into care - but they are all part of the LYSTA family.

Treating lice!

In April, we adopted an adult cat that had been taken in by the health center and had lice that had not been cured.

I named her Yurian.
Yurian had cold symptoms and eosinophilic granuloma, so we focused on medication and strengthening her immune system.
Lice infest children who are in poor health and nutrition. By providing them with good quality food, the lice disappeared.

Thirty-four cats were neutered once a month, and most of the female cats were pregnant or had just given birth.
We appreciate your continued support so that we can reach out to children who need help and prevent more unfortunate lives from being lost.

TNR in action.

In May, we carried out TNR on 23 cats at the Iwaki TNR Hospital within the shelter.
When we captured the multiple cats at the scene, we found some kittens about one month old that were too large to be operated on, so we had to rescue them.
The people who were feeding the animals at that site did not seem to sense any sense of crisis, and they were not willing to cover the costs of the surgery.
The donations were used to cover the cost of the surgery.
Thank you every month.

Thank you for your continued support.
