We received a report on the cats for March 2026.

 

March Activity Report

 

In March, 105 cats underwent mass spay/neuter surgeries.

Many rushed in just before the birthing season, reporting things like "I feel like her belly is getting bigger" or "they were mating." Over 30% of female cats were pregnant.
To avoid unnecessary abortions, we must immediately spay/neuter cats that are being fed.
We still have a long way to go to expand TNR activities into every corner.

 

 

LYSTA Protects Safe Havens

In fiscal year R7, the number of dogs and cats euthanized in Iwaki City, where we operate, was limited to one injured cat.
Five years ago, approximately 200 dogs and cats were euthanized, so this is a dramatic change.

Since LYSTA began its activities 15 years ago, we have set the goal of "reaching the starting line for sustainable zero euthanasia in Iwaki City," and we accept dogs and cats from public health centers that are not suitable for adoption.

However, if our shelter collapses, it defeats the purpose.
We have steadily prepared to reach the starting line for zero euthanasia, so that we can one day be confident that "we can achieve zero."

Now that the new fiscal year, R8, has begun, this year is the starting point for zero euthanasia in Iwaki City.
Without all of you who support us, we would not have been able to reach this starting line.

Bearing in mind that one cat was euthanized in fiscal year R7, we will do our utmost to strengthen our solid intake system through communication with the public health center.
